These are showing the prices of #Amtrak and #Brightline for a one-way November 1st trip (bit over 4 months from now) of Orlando to West Palm Beach. Amtrak is cheaper, but Brightline has frequency, which is what you need if you need to arrive at your destination before 3pm when hotels have their check-in time.

Passenger rail and #HSR need to be accompanied by expanded and frequent local public transit, otherwise people without a car will feel stranded when they step off the train. This will especially be a problem for #Brightline in Tampa and Cocoa.

There does seem to be (slow) movement in a positive direction from the corporate sector at least: #BrightLine (https://www.gobrightline.com/) has been seeing success running a short haul line linking several major cities in Florida, and it sounds like they're planning a new high speed rail line linking LA and Las Vegas. As I understand it, their business model is to treat rail as a loss leader for a real estate business, so I'm hopeful...

Hopefully one day #EpicUniverse #Orlando will also be light rail connected to #Brightline.

Missed this quiet milestone when it came out last week: Brightline is turning an operating profit on its Miami-West Palm Beach segment, even before the opening of the Orlando extension.

There is a plan to extend #Sunrail to Lakeland, FL, and I really hope they eventually extend it to Tampa and St Petersburg, FL, so I can make a train trip to the Kissimmee station (to go to #Disney) in the morning instead of waiting until late afternoon for the Silver Star 92. I know #Brightline intends to go to Tampa, but not St Petersburg. #Transportation #PassengerRail #Florida

#Amtrak has a long history of discontinuing routes, and I think it's very possible that once #Brightline completes the Tampa-Orlanda-Miami routes, Amtrak will cut most of the Silver routes in FL, which is a bad idea because if someone in say Miami wants to go to the northeast, they can't just use one #Train.
