She is part woman, part echo

Lú and Banbha,
Part rumour of how
A woman can outfox
The unsuspecting man.

I think she is part promise
That no legend really dies,
But is reborn, redressed.

And she is part reproach
To the poachers, the converters
Whose timid imaginations
Couldn't outwit the goddess
They found spread
Over the soul
Like a cloak.

Originally a Celtic goddess adopted by Christianity, Brigid always traditionally brought Spring to Ireland.

The ancient Tuatha dé Danann people celebrated her fetsival of Imbolc as the re-awakening of the natural world. Trees re-flourished, hibernating animals awoke and days became longer and brighter.

Our Irish environment is as vital to our health and wellbeing now as it was then, we must work together to protect it.

Any noteworthy events worth checking out that anyone knows of for the #Brigid bank holiday weekend?

Brigid means, “the exalted one,” and as a goddess, she has been many things to many people through the centuries.

She shows up consistently most fiercely for the marginalized. I’ve had the joy of reading a few posts and blogs tonight marking her as a modern champion of the LGBT community and a gay icon, and it makes me smile.

It resonates as in keeping with her character and her lore for me.
