Red Dwarf Season 7. 15 years ago when I decided I wanted (needed) Red Dwarf in DVD format, I purchased two boxed sets of 4 seasons each. That meant it included seasons 7 and 8 which I'd never seen and had been told back in the late 90s that they weren't very good (that's a mild way of translating how they were described to me). But I showed the first 6 seasons to my daughter and so naturally she wanted to watch the rest. Season 7 is... not very good. But it's not as bad as I feared once you accept the discontinuity with the previous material. In particular, the introduction of Kochanski as a main character, played by a different actress than in Season 1, with a posh accent when the earlier Kochanski was visibly working class and ignoring all of the future echoes stuff about her and lister having twins... In many ways, Season 7 feels like an alternate Season 1. There's no broader plot, the comedy is mostly situational, and while the special effects budget when up, it still looks clunky by today's standards. So by no means a must see, but not as much a waste of my time as I feared. I'll push until Season 8 just to see if it's downhill from there.
