From a distance the motif on this mid #1860s bright purple gown appears to be all floral, a repeat of blooms across the silk. In fact it is a gold #brocaded insect nestled amongst black stemmed petals. I wonder how many of the wearer’s friends noticed? @AugustaAuction@twitter.com
