Tropical gardening is a slow dance with nature. It is collaborative and nature plays the trickster. Things are in constant flux and they don’t always end up how you thought they would. A case in point is my gorgeous Brazilian Crista Galli. It was sold as a nice shrub for a corner, and it is now 25 metres high (8 and 10). #ashrubfortheGuinnessrecords #Bromeliads #tropicalgardens

Recently I saw this little #butterfly and it stood still for a while and allowed me to take pictures! According to google lens it's a cracker butterfly. I love grey and brown butterflies and moths. I tend to gravitate to monochromatic beauties. 🤎
On the same trunk there's this patch of #moss #lichen and very small #bromeliads, which mastodon seems to enjoy! :ablobcatreachreverse:

Brocchinia reducta is some of the strangest #florespondence I’ve ever seen. Tiny, nondescript white flowers clustered on an obnoxiously large flower spike.

Brocchinia reducta is a carnivorous bromeliad. The leaves form a central well that functions like a pitcher plant. Mine is surprising me with a flower. I swear that flower spike wasn’t there a few days ago!

So I took 'em home! (A good brother helped me carry them out, so nice!) Pixel J. Cat has been very good and not eating them, though he Attempted To Sample.
I do not have a green thumb so wish me luck!
