@nycmayorsoffice@bird.makeup manages to piss me off early in the morning with email about #waterfalls on the #BronxRiver that are eye candy to far too many and should be torn down ASAP. They only prevent fish travel and make kayaking on the #BronxRiver so much more difficult than it needs to be.
Went to Bronx & Harlem Rivers Urban Waters Federal Partnership (UWFP) Quarterly Meeting.held by #BCEQ.org (The Bronx Council for Environmental Quality) at Manhattan College. Learned many things. One is that #BronxRiver dams will be evaluated for sustainability of #fishPassageway. Also some org has taken sediment cores. The dual dam in #BronxZoo may come down anyway. Pinch points may cause Bronx River to flood.

@tomflood @betterstreetsnsw Makes me think of biking along the #BronxRiver.. Bridges have been washed out probably for 10 years, but there are no warning signs. You just bike until you can't go any turther and then you turn around. Oh. and like trying to bike up the east side of Manhattan.
My goal is to just contact people at these agencies (MetroNorth-MTA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT) and pass along what I have learned in the hope they will do all the hard work and I can rest knowing those dams have been destroyed and the #BronxRiver can flow freer than it has in 100 years. Alas it is straightened and I cannot expect that to change. After the #dams are removed the #culverts are next.
#Dams, #floodRisk, #seaLevelRise, highways and trains.
I want all the dams (all obsolete) on the #BronxRiver taken down.
Looking for motivation to get MetroNorth and various DOTs to pay and advocate dam removal, sediment testing, before and after monitoring, etc.

@Lyle This is very timely as there's a meeting coming up about the #BronxRiver which has at least 4 obsolete dams on it.
I'm overbooked!
I booked an appearance at the POINT community development center in the #Bronx about the #BronxRiver and just booked and in person community input session at Dyckman Senior Center about the development at Academy Street and North Cove in #Inwood. The Inwood meeting is closer, but my heart is a bit more with the Bronx River. Tough decision.
I got in a "pre-Printemps" ride in, today, with my friend J. from down the block. It was an easy no-pressure ride to the #BronxRiver #bikepath, and then north on the bike path to the #KensicoDam and back. I did not activate Strava, but the Fitbit did recognize two #bike rides.
Both of us are in about the same level of "out of condition" after a winter layoff, but there were only a few spots where granny gear was not low enough for a dismount and walk.

@atthenius This post is in response to a post of mine that was insanely difficult to find. I thought Mastodon searches hashtags. I had searched on #BronxRiver and nothing came up but here it is.
@haq @Anthro @atthenius Retaining information as to location has the problem of people forgetting to check. In case of Hudson River, the Champlain Hudson Power Express would be digging through that. In the case of the #BronxRiver dams balancing negative ecosystem, heath and income effects vs.cost of removing sediment in a few places. Sweeping under the rug/passing the buck/screw future generations vs. bite the bullet.
Was searching for an exchange with @atthenius about #BronxRiver dam #sediment. Couldn't find it. Found this though from just 8 days ago. https://www.stormh2o.com/stormwater-management/article/21292376/bipartisan-infrastructure-law-funding-to-help-restore-nynj-estuary
About 2/3rds of the way down is a section on Bronx Zoo & Dam and Stone Mill Dam Restoration Project, New York. Had not known about this. If the sedimentation behind the Bronx River dams is dangerous then that sedimentation should be removed.
@memory Thanks so much for this. I've saved the text from that link in case it gets deleted. I forgot all about the NYBG dam on the #BronxRiver. Now I'm curious as to how long it took because it seems to be 2 miles as the crow flies. Its nice because one can get to #ShoelacePark via the subway. I was thinking further north to start and using #MetroNorth.

Planning to join Bob DelTorto this Sunday for the #VineCutting along the #BronxRiver near the #Crestwood #MetroNorth station in #WestchesterCounty #NY. Route will involve the #MTA's infamous #Bx12SBS bus along #FordhamRoad

@atthenius Have you been able to check if Dorothy Peteet ever sampled sediment on the #BronxRiver dam at 181st Street? I may have been saying 182nd Street. Same dam.
