The word from my PSC-CUNY Union this morning is that an arbitrator is suggesting NYC force retirees off of Senior Care and into privately administered Medicare Advantage program that is worse.

So, I found my local council member

A reintroduction! I live in #NYC, teach at #BrooklynCollege and the Graduate Center at #CUNY, I have a book coming out soon on the Great Fire of New York in 1776, and I mainly study the #AmericanRevolution (#AmRev) and other 18th-century stuff.

I'm starting to think of possibilities for using #mastodon in my teaching at #BrooklynCollege. Without going into detailed use-cases, a basic one would be to create an instance for a class that students join.

My initial concern in attempting such a thing is respecting #FERPA.

If anyone has links to discussions of using #mastodon in the classroom and FERPA please let me know.

Rather, and I am wondering whether I would join professional instances in my circles. For example, would I join a #Psychonomics instance, a #CUNY instance, or a #BrooklynCollege instance, or possibly many more. Setting up a mastodon server is ridiculously easy with masto.host, so I could imagine temporary instances being set-up just for the purpose of a conference. In any case, there is potential for multiple account proliferation, and that seems scary to me. Too.many.accounts...
