"Money for Nothing" is a song by British rock band #DireStraits, the second track on their fifth studio album, #BrothersInArms (1985). It was released as the album's second single on 28 June 1985 through #VertigoRecords. The song's lyrics are written from the point of view of two working-class men watching music videos and commenting on what they see. The song features a guest appearance by #Sting singing background vocals.

Miles de kilómetros recorridos en el asiento central trasero (bueno, más bien en el hueco entre los asientos delanteros) del #Renault8 y del #OpelKadett de mis padres escuchando cintas con canciones de un grupo llamado "Dire Streets" (escrito con tippex en un casete negro) podrían convertirme en un experto, aunque la verdad es que son tan ligeros que difícilmente dejan huella.

A ver, tienen momentos y momentazos como aquel #SultansOfSwings en directo y el segundo tema de este disco, pero en muchas ocasiones parece faltarles energía. De hecho, me sentí tremendamente identificado cuando, en aquella escena de la película #BohemianRhapsody en la que se ve a gente en un bar pasando un poco del pedazo de evento que fue #LiveAid, esa misma gente que luego vibraría cuando saliese #Queen a robar el show, el grupo que suena inmediatamente antes, cuando están a sus conversaciones, es precisamente este. Es que es un poco la definición de meh. Y me molesta que sea así tratándose de un grupo que ha escrito bellezas como #TunnelOfLove o #RomeoAndJuliet, pero es que les faltaba transmitir.

Este disco podría ser un buen ejemplo de ello. Para empezar, se llama como el título de un temazo que debería servir para cerrar un #LP, pero jamás como single. Bueno, pues allá que van a sacarlo.

Lo pones y el comienzo no podía ser mejor con #FarAway y, sobre todo, #MoneyForNothing, un tema que suena a reinvención, a caña, a #Yes dejando atrás el rock sinfónico y abrazando los ochenta con brazos y piernas para que no se escapen. #LatestTrick está ahí para hacerte llorar con ese saxo magnífico y acabas la cara A pensando que te acaba de arrollar un tren cuando lo que esperabas era el triciclo de tu sobrina.

Pero llega la cara B. La nada. Música de fondo. Una montaña de aire estático. Una ocasión perdida, en mi opinión.

Disclaimer: en realidad lo que yo llamo cara A en este LP se trata del disco 1, ya que es de esas ediciones que tanto detesto porque convierten un disco normal en falso disco doble. Se gana en calidad, pero te cargas la experiencia del disco original. Sin embargo, en este caso tiene su explicación, ya que en esta edición cuatro temas son más largos que en la original de 1985, entre ellos los tres que he mencionado, así que no hay mal que por bien no venga.
