These two brown bear cubs had been play fighting for several minutes. The one on the left seemed to be the one who was ‘winning’. But at this moment, the one on the right broke out of the headlock and looked to be saying ‘take that!”. One Brown Bear cub holds his napping sibling at Lake Clark National Park in Alaska in this image called, Best Friends Fur Ever, No. 8. Lake Clark Brown Bears are the same species as Grizzly bears, but habitat influences diet, size and behavior. Plentiful foods sources make the Lake Clark brown bears less aggressive and more bears live in closer proximity to each other. https://belinda-greb.pixels.com/featured/best-friends-fur-ever-bear-cubs-no-8-belinda-greb.html #wildlifephotography #aYearforart #brownbears #brownbearcub

Thumbing through, processing, and culling among 400 photos from my Woodland Park Zoo day trip a couple days ago. I'll drop a few over the coming days. Here are the two brown bears, Fern and Juniper, playing like my two dogs do. I wonder if they sneeze during play like dogs do so they know it's just play? #zoo #zoos #photography #animalbehaviour #bears #brownbears #grizzlybears #Seattle https://www.zoo.org/brownbear

"Sometimes a name is just a name. Take bears, for example. In Yellowstone National Park, black bears outnumber their brownish-colored grizzly bear cousins, and in coastal areas of the Pacific Northwest, if someone says “brown bear,” they mean grizzly bear. But not all brown bears are grizzly bears".

Got sick and slept through most of the weekend--so let's cover a #megafauna that sleeps through #winter. Brown bears live in North America, Europe, and Asia, and can weigh 200-900 lbs depending on sex and location. The largest brown bear on record was 1,656 lbs.
When temperatures drop and food becomes scarce, #BrownBears use claws to build dens lined with plants and snow for insulation. In the arctic, where energy conservation is most important, brown bears can #hibernate for up to 8 months.

The use of #PredatorControl as a management practice to enhance game harvest is controversial.
A new paper by Sterling Miller, David Person and Terry Bowyer analyzed harvest data on #GrayWolves, #BlackBears, #BrownBears and #Moose to determine predator harvest was positively correlated with moose harvest in the long term. No such effect was found:
