All right, get back in line.

These are brown pelicans that were flying east off of Holly Beach, Louisiana on the Gulf of Mexico. Notice that there are also two gulls or terns floating in the water below.

"The Brown Pelican is a comically elegant bird with an oversized bill, sinuous neck, and big, dark body. Squadrons glide above the surf along southern and western coasts, rising and falling in a graceful echo of the waves. They feed by plunge-diving from high up, using the force of impact to stun small fish before scooping them up. They are fairly common today—an excellent example of a species’ recovery from pesticide pollution that once placed them at the brink of extinction." - allaboutbirds.org

When on the hunt, they are sleek and fast! They flew up into the rain storm, kinda hovered, then tucked in tight to dive! Great bird torpedoes, I thought.

Brown Pelican

I found this pelican at Holly Beach, Louisiana on the Gulf of Mexico. I took several photos; this isn't the first I've posted of this bird but it's the first time for this particular photo.
