Some of the hoodoos in Bryce Canyon National Park are massive. In the photo below, two hikers in the center bottom of the picture give you perspective on the size of these brilliant rock walls. It’s truly amazing to experience.

One of my best friends gifted me a book called “Parks,” which is a collection of National Parks Service materials. The pamphlets are organized by year of publication and range from 1916 to 2002. I love seeing the progression of design.

Bryce Canyon as seen from almost Sunrise Point. I was working my way along the Rim Trail from Sunset Point when rain surprised me. It looks nice and sunny but there was an impending rain storm approaching from the opposite direction so I didn't make it to the actual concrete pad where it states "Sunset Point" but close.

Windows are the geologic name for these arches at Bryce Canyon National Park. They form at cracks or weaker areas in the rock. Many of these windows at Bryce were caused by frost wedging. This is the process in which cracks in rock are expanded as water turns to ice.
Bryce Canyon makes up the pink cliffs step of the Grand Staircase. This is the highest step at an elevation of about 9k feet.
This year Bryce celebrates 100 years as a national park.

I am on day 5 of isolating away from family because I am pregnant and my toddler has COVID 😩 so I have gotten a lot of this done.

I’m learning a lot about the importance of choosing distinctive colors and I’m stitch direction& size.I’ve decided to make all of the landscape parts horizontal w long stitches while all of the rock/hoodoo bits are done w small stitching, following the outline of the shape.

Finally got around to starting this and I’m loving the new hoop (ty, internet, for suggesting the Morgan No-slip Hoop) and the linen (cheaper than Aida cloth somehow, also tighter weave). However I got this far when I though: maybe this sky portion is too raised?? Maybe I should split it and go to three strands?? Gonna sleep on this before I rip it out and start over. (The clouds are six strands and *that’s* fine)

It's a balmy 15 degrees out at Bryce Canyon National Park. Visibility is about 2 feet. Not much to see if you're not on Snowshoes. Most of the roads in the park is shut down, but Inspiration Point is still open.
