#OTD Nathaniel Lord Britton, American #Botanist & #Taxonomist, is born.

He married the famous #Bryologist Elizabeth Gertrude Knight.
Inspired by Kew Gardens, the couple co-founded the New York Botanical #Garden (#NYBG).

The botanist Henry #Rusby recounted seeing beautiful #Botanical drawings on Nathaniel's desk.

"[After he said] he was the #Artist, I asked, 'Can you #Draw like that?'

He said, 'Why do you suppose I did all that hard work in the drawing class?'"

#Mosstodon #bryologist This caught my eye up Tobin's Track this morning. Any idea what it is? Very light, didn't stick to my finger when I touched it, about 10cm top to bottom, looks like a little bit has dropped into the ground below.

It is extremely tiny, can almost only be viewed properly with a magnifyer (1: macro). And forms nice fluffly patches (photo2). #mosstodon #France #moss
