I created a blog post last night about why I switched back to #BSPWM and #XOrg away from #wayland .

Okay, that's somehow cursed (but working) way to get rid of background flashing on #bspwm workspaces changing with #picom enabled: https://github.com/yshui/picom/issues/16#issuecomment-792739119 #linux

Recently switched to #bspwm and i still want to use lollypop as my music player but i don't like the window buttons (top right) does anyone know if there is any way for me to remove them
Recreating the basics of my #Xorg desktop in #Wayland was a lot easier than I thought. I'd say roughly 6 hours of reading man pages and writing configs. That sounds like a lot, but I'm pretty fussy with my dotfiles - a normal person would have a much easier time.
The only thing I still can't replicate is #bspwm. River is very good for software that's still in it's early stages, it just isn't the window manager I know and love. Maybe this'll be the year I finally let it go...
Hello #vim people! I am an Emacs freak, but I decided to give Vim a try. I am using #bspwm with picom as my compositor (obviously :P). The problem is that I prefer gvim specifically. Here is a side by side comparison of how it looks normally (left is vim running in Alacritty, right is gvim) before and after attempting hi Normal guibg=NONE ctermbg=NONE
. Why doesn’t gvim show me a transparent bg and instead it goes to the default white one? This really annoys me and I can’t find any real fix (at least using my Google/DDG-fu) besides “lol just use guibg=NONE and It’ll Just Work™). Is there something I’m missing?
@drmorr #Wayland has been on the rise recently and so have their WMs. The most famous I know are #Hyprland and #Sway. Now X11 WMs, there’s #i3, #bspwm, #awesomewm, #xmonad, #qtile, #dwm and more that I just don’t remember

Espectacular

#bspwm’s automatic placement of windows has made a really good initial impression when compared with how #i3wm requires me to be more actively involved with the placement. Granted I’ve only used it for a few minutes so far, but I’m impressed.

@CyrilBrulebois and it works very well 👍 #BSPWM with an #nvidia card very snappy. Good to be back with APT. No bugs yet 🤞
For those interested in a well built, lightweight Debian based disto geared towards running window managers (wm), not Desktop Environments, you may find LiliDog of interest. I use LiliDog (running sid, rolling unstable Debian). I use it with the following in a single-user space: i3wm, bspwm, openbox, hlwm, and dwm.

@pierrelegall @nietaki cool. Never used any of the big desktops on linux, except for a short while on xfce4 just after migrating from macOS. Been mostly using #i3wm, #bspwm and #sway. Just love that whole paradigm.
