For those who haven't been following the #wayland story with #budgiedesktop:

- Magpie v0 is a Mutter fork (43 with some backports from 44) with all the Wayland bits stripped out. It's X11-only, and its days are numbered.

- Magpie v1 is in development, and is a from-scratch Wayland compositor based on #wlroots. It was going to be written in C, but we've decided to use C++ instead. Budgie 10 will rebase onto Magpie v1 when the latter is complete.

Budgie 10.8 released with StatusNotifier support in the system tray area, Magpie v0.x, improvements for the privilege escalation dialog, and the previous third party trash applet is now part of mainline Budgie

Today @BuddiesOfBudgie, the project behind the #BudgieDesktop and a global leader in volunteer open source solutions, announced it is forking publicly available Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and will develop and maintain a RHEL-compatible distribution available to all without restrictions. Over the next few years, Buddies of Budgie plans to invest more than 1 billion bird seeds into this project.

Starting a new work project in #rustlang :rust:... I figured why not give myself a reason to learn the language, given that I'm likely to be using it for #budgiedesktop in the future?

Obviously can't delve into details about what the project is, but I will talk about cool language features as I stumble into them.

I spent some time yesterday putting together install instructions to get #budgiedesktop on #freebsd, now that it's been packaged. Those instructions should be live on the @BuddiesOfBudgie docs site soon.

@motoridersd I also didn't like the missing launch menu, with searching, when I messed with Budgie. Some Mate installations also have that super key activated search and start menu. If you want it, and it's missing from your Mate, you can add the Brisk Menu package. Is Budgie extensible that way? #GNU #Linux #MateDeskTop #BudgieDesktop #BriskMenu

Bumped the Budgie packages on Arch to their new versions (10.7 for -desktop, 1.2.1 for -desktop-view, etc). Also added them to a new "budgie" package group so all the components can be installed at once. #archlinux #budgiedesktop

Been experimenting with #budgiedesktop on #fedora37; really loving the experience and looking forward to the official spin.

I finally - FINALLY - completed the initial version of the Raven plugin system, and marked the PR as ready to review! This is the largest project I've worked on so far for @BuddiesOfBudgie, though the system tray reimplementation is a close second. I'm hoping to get this merged for v10.7, but if not, it'll be ready to go for v10.8!
