Thank you @toke for shipping a copy! The cover image is awesome 👏 #bufferbloat
I've been using #OPNsense for years (and before that, #pfsense) but its #IPv6 support is so buggy I think I'll have to switch. Suggestions for what to switch to? #OpenWRT is my leading contender due to its #CAKE anti- #bufferbloat support.
#OPNsense bugs: IPv6 NAT uses the wrong IP address after WAN gets a new one https://github.com/opnsense/core/issues/6530 , same with NPTv6 https://github.com/opnsense/core/issues/5284 . Not IPv6, but it uses the wrong MAC sometimes https://github.com/opnsense/core/issues/6512 though I was able to work around that.

#ipv6 and #bufferbloat mitigation are the chocolate and peanut butter of networking.
My sister has #bufferbloat and it's affecting her ability to do work via video meetings. I'm sending her a dual LAN mini PC to act as her router (and a wifi AP separately). I want to install #Debian on the mini PC. Is there a good bootable USB image that just automatically does a basic install? My sister is not tech tolerant and won't have a good time walking through install over phone.
Learnt about Bufferbloat while looking up HTTP/3 improvements. This is easily one of the most entertaining yet insightful talks that I have watched recently. Kudos to Dave Taht 👏 #QUIC #HTTP3 #BufferBloat
#introduction when the database crashed I lost some followers, but because I hadn't backed up my account yet, I am not sure who they all are. As an extended introduction I'll tag some common topics I like to discuss, maybe people will see those.

@timbray #bufferbloat was an issue discovered and documented years ago in consumer routers, but it hasn't gone anywhere. It CAN be mitigated in downstream devices but the real fix is making sure the border router doesn't cause it.
@clolsonus I remember when we were delighted that an entire campus of 4000 people went from a leased line with a 19.2kbps modem to a T1 with 1.544mbps which seemed like almost infinite bandwidth by comparison. sigh
#BufferBloat is not as pervasive a problem as when Dave Täht started publicizing it, but it doesn't surprise me that it persists on ridiculously asymmetric links.
Do you rent your modem or did you buy one?
Interesting article about #BufferBloat on #HackADay today! Since I have an OpenWRT router, I followed their steps and got my latency under load down!
Originally, latency under load increased by 150%, now it's down to around 30%. You're able to tune it so that increase is even lower, but it'll bite more into your download speed. I was happy downloading at 10.8 Mbps rather than 11.7.

@orionwl I wonder how much is attributable to the connection (HW) and how much to the router firmware (SW).
I've been learning about #OpenWrt and #BufferBloat seems very relevant for latency.

Also on the subject of #bufferbloat, check out this company and their routers that help solve bufferbloat with minimal interaction (or understanding) on the end-user’s part: https://evenroute.com/ And for more advanced users, I definitely recommend #SQM in #OpenWrt. Check it out!
If you’re not familiar with #bufferbloat and what it means for your internet connection, you should look it up. Dave Täht has spent many years educating others on bufferbloat. Check out this post and video for some great info: https://www.patreon.com/posts/framing-last-on-28743116

If you are already using #OpenWrt, addressing #bufferbloat on your internet connection is fairly quick and straightforward with #SQM! https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/traffic-shaping/sqm
If you have enough horsepower in your router, I recommend #CAKE. CAKE or not, SQM will quickly help you see benefits that will make your internet connection feel like new!
