@schizanon I thought the same as you for the longest time.

Try using #podman and #buildah instead. It feels much nicer to use, and the inner workings are more understandable. It’s pretty much fancy LXC under the hood.

I personally use Ansible (I despise docker-compose files) for all deployment as well.

It makes far more sense to use Ansible for me… keeps all configuration in one got repository and I don’t need to install anything other than podman on the deployment targets as well…

I just merged this change into FreeBSD-current. It was a little more than 40 lines of code after code review...

I plan to merge this to the stable/13 branch soon so this feature will be available in #FreeBSD 13.2 and later. An upcoming release of my ocijail #container runtime will use file mounts for #podman and #buildah containers when available.

@dragnucs Difficult and embarassing topic.
I wrote prototypes for Terraform Providers for #podman, #buildah and #kaniko IIRC.
ALL of them are horrible at caching layers - let alone remote exec.
The only descend approach which supports caching seems to be #buildx + #buildkit. And yes, I have a prototype implementation for that as well.
We are still not testing this though, since hosting a Buildkit Remote Builder on GKE is a nightmare.
Let alone error handling in both buildx and buildkit is BAD.
