Prepping for class tomorrow, did you know the CRI in CRI LEDs stands for Colour Rendering Index? This means the full spectrum of colour are present in the light, standard LEDs have gaps in the spectrum, I guess they're good for colour work, ie design, galleries etc. #BuildingDesign
I got a threatening email from a past client, they want the *files* of the drawings I did for them. I had already told them they could have them on Monday but them want them today(!) If they had asked nicely I would have kept my laptop open for them another hour and they'd have them this arvo. I don't an inch to bullies. They can wait till Monday :blobcat_angery: #Freelance #BuildingDesign
Geeking out about the new cooktops with built-in extracting fans. Imagine how minimal a kitchen could look. Apparently these work very well! #design #BuildingDesign

We have gone past peak McMansion. Houses are now very expensive to build. I had an inkling that the house I designed was going to be very expensive to build. I thought maybe $650K... well, I was way off, it's around $1M. Clients are digesting that info and considering a redesign for a smaller house. #BuildingDesign #Architecture
Now I'm distracted. I'm writing a blog post about how to get your home through planning. I hope it helps somebody... #Planning #BuildingDesign #Blogging

Reporting back from site visit. The "gate" to the site is a panel of the cyclone fence that has to be forcefully moved of the way. Fences are 1890 mm and 1830 mm on each side. Took photos of fences, done in less than 5 minutes. #architecture #BuildingDesign #siteVisit

Site visit this morning. Need to measure neighbouring fence heights for shadow diagrams. Even though we are within the building envelope, we have *objections* from neighbours #architecture #BuildingDesign
The joys of being a designer. I just engaged a debt collector. One of my clients owes me over $10K and refuses to pay or communicate with me. It's enough to turn me off clients forever #freelance #buildingDesign #Designer

More DA shenanigans. Need to show sunlight reaches into the neighbour's living areas by doing a shadow study in section. Now I have to draw a section of a house I know nothing about... I'll make a guestimate #architecture #buildingDesign
One of my building designs is nearing the end of the development application process. It's going out to advertisement this weekend. This project has been very challenging as we had to get a flood risk assessment on a very steep block on the edge of the Esk River. I had to remove the poles at the back of the building and cantilevered it to avoid footings below the flood risk datum. #construction #architecture #BuildingDesign

I mean xD Who wouldn't want this in their house? - Just missing a big painted portrait of me (And possibly a wood fired oven)

Did my first work for the year: removed some columns and altered a flood line for a DA. I wonder how much #buildingdesign work I'll be doing this year...

This Thursday's long read!
Built in the back garden of two architects, this simple-but-elegant brick house in Blackrock faced the twin challenges of an extremely tight site and less-than-ideal orientation, but with rigorous attention to detail it came close to #passivehouse levels - while delivering impressively low actual #Heatingcosts
