Woohoo! I'm getting an industry-funded new computer! I've been doing my simulations on a Dell laptop that is SLOW. The new computer will not be a laptop, with the specs I've asked for, I can do thousands of iterations that will take ONE day instead of FIVE.

A 12 month old house collapsed in Sydney today. No one hurt but the building geek in me is *curious* abc.net.au/news/2023-04-07/thr

Back at work after a holiday Monday. I feel _productive_ I wrote all morning, I'm writing a paper about southern hemisphere climate change vulnerabilities and mould in buildings. Now onto hygrothermal simulations for my current research project

The Building Physics Forum is in Melbourne this year. Thinking of what to present…. It’s going to have to be something about mould!

Our roof windows are poor from an energy efficiency point of view, but at least they make some pretty frost patterns.

I tried to take the day off by sitting on the couch. Brain says no. Now I'm outlining the content for the 2023 Architectural Science Association's conference website

My lab got awarded the best student paper at the recent architectural science association conference at Curtin University. A novel method for estimating precipitation in climate datasets for hygrothermal analysis. Recognition like this ISN'T the driver for my work but it sure feels good and is validating🙂 My work is to ensure we are building well as we transition to zero emission buildings

is one of necessary components for buildings

Common problem found is one and only side of opening. When heat generated inside + heat from the sun, heated air cannot escape due to enclosed walls and ceiling.

The solution is pretty simple, ensuring that your room has inlet and outlet located in different elevation. Ideally we want to put inlets at people height. Then, we put outlets higher than people height.

I've published another Part O blog. This one offers advice on getting some key things right in dynamic models, including ensuring window openings are accurately modelled and on delivering the noise criteria.
In collaboration with Jack Harvie-Clark and Ben Abel from a CIBSE Building Simulation Group event.
