Another unlisted ecclesiastical building from the east end of Glasgow, this time in a much worse state of repair. This is the former Saint Clement's Pariah Church and hall on Brook Street. It was built in 1877. It is on the Buildings At Risk Register.

I know this building is in a really poor state, but it has a certain charm to it and it has a lot of potential. It would be a real shame if it left to continue deteriorating to the point where is it lost forever.

The A-Listed former Sentinel Works on Jessie Street in Glasgow.
Designed by Brand and Lithgrow, this was one of the first fully reinforced concrete buildings (meaning there's no internal steel frame) and the oldest to survive in the UK. This method of construction means there are no internal columns and the entire weight of the building is supported by the external concrete frame.

I feel Glasgow City Council has neglected this part of the city centre for way too long and that, regardless of who is running it, should be doing a lot more to bring such buildings back into use. And by this, I don't mean knocking them down and replacing them with generic-looking new buildings, but actually properly bringing the back into use.

Free Renaissance style warehouse at 137 Trongate in Glasgow. Built in 1885, it was designed by James Sellars, an architect who has had a major influence on how the city looks today. It lies boarded up and decaying, and has been for some time.
This is one of several listed buildings in a similar state along the Trongate, a major thoroughfare in Glasgow, and they give the entire area a very run down feel.

Sad to see #Carlisle Victorian/Turkish baths on this list, but perhaps the extra publicity will help save them. #architecture #victorian #buildingsatrisk

Due to structural issues, the Lion Chambers have been empty since 2010 and were reportedly offered for sale for £1 in 2019, but the deal fell through. It's estimated it would cost several million pounds to repair it and bring it back ointo use. Now where's that lottery ticket ...

The Lion Chambers on Hope Street in Glasgow.

The India Building on Bridge Street in Glasgow. This is the worst infestation of buddleia I've seen so far on a listed building.
Built in 1876 for Robert McGregor and Co who made stationery account books and paper bags, it remains an attractive and impressive-looking building despite it's current perilous state. Not surprsingly, this building is considered at risk of being lost.

Peter MacGregor Chalmers' 1897 Gothic Free Style manse at the former Saint Margaret's Polmadie Church in the Oatlands area of Glasgow.
This beautiful B-Listed building could make a great home, office or community space, but sadly it (along with the adjoining church) has been left to fall into a very poor state of disrepair.

The Beco Building on Kingston Street in the Tradeston area of Glasgow.
Originally built in 1878 as a warehouse and showroon for a Draper named Robert Kerr, this beautiful B-Listed building was, until recently considered at risk of being lost. It was even slated for demolition in 2008. It now forms part of the new Barclays Bank campus on the south bank of the Clyde.

Whitevale Public Bath in the east end of Glasgow.
Designed by AB McDonald and opened in 1902 when few Glasgow tenements had indoor bathrooms, such public baths were an important part of local communities.
This one was more impressive than most, boasting separate men's and women's swimming pools, hot baths, showers, a washhouse with sixty six separate stations for washing clothes, a Turkish bath and a gym.

An old coach house dating from the 1870s in Belmont Lane in the west end of Glasgow.
Originally built for the residents of the nearby Hamilton Drive, it had become derelict before being taken over and completely refurbished in the late 1990s by The Coach House Trust. It's now used by the trust as a community space for adults who have experienced exclusion from mainstream society.

Gutted by fire in 2005, and missing its roof, this B Listed building was, for many years, pretty much abandoned and left to fall apart. However, in the last few years it has been very sympathetically turned into residential housing (including recasting the beautiful, Thomsonesque original railings) ensuring that this little gem will be safe for years to come.

The former Mission Hall on Nithsdale Drive in Glasgow. Built in 1887 and designed by Alexander Skirving, it's very strongly influenced by Alexander 'Greek' Thomson.
This is a great example of how a derelict, at-risk building can be bought back into use and so saved for the future.

This is a little gem of polychromatic brick building that's seen better days (and despite being listed really looks like it's on its last legs). It's on Tobago Street in Calton, Glasgow.
It was designed by A Adam and built in 1905 as a store and stable for James Fraser, who was a rag and metal merchant.

The B Listed former Leyland Motor Company building on Salkeld Street in Glasgow. Built in 1933, this forgotten Art Deco gem is in a dismal state. In particular, the original curved glass windows in the tower are long gone. Unsurprisingly, it is classified as a building at risk of being lost.
