The first was good. Nice example of using a simple idea for a short novel.

The second started off ok, but at about the half way mark it just became a full on romance novel. I don't mind it if that is one part of the story, but not when it's the entire focus. I found myself fast-forwarding through parts at that point. And it was the most vanilla normy I'm going to have the perfect wedding shite.

Finished the audiobook of Bujold’s *The Assassin’s of Thasalon* on my flights yesterday, bringing me almost to the end of my occasional re-read of the Penric & Desdemona series. Bujold is one of my favorite authors, but this particular series really gets me in a specific but hard to describe way. Very unexpected for me. #bookstodon #audiobooks #bujold

Finally getting around to Bujold's Penric and Desdemona series. I enjoyed the first novella, and am committed to one each for the next ten months, so hopefully they'll keep my interest. I will be created different pages, conforming to the way they have been collected in omnibus volumes, starting with general comments on the series, and then the first story for now.

The back of her trading card does mention she had a Klingon father and Human mother.

Klingon/Human romance is a real potential fertile ground for fiction. Notably Lois McMaster Bujold's long and wonderful Vorkosigan series started as a bit of an idea about such a romance, which shows in the early part of Shards of Honor.

Contrary to rumor it was apparently never written as a fanfic but the influence is still there.

I second the Kristine Kathryn Rusch suggestion. I also like the first half dozen books in her Retrieval Artist series very much. The Murderbot series is very good indeed. I am somewhat ambivalent about the Hyperion cantos. Another series I particular like is the Vorkosigan saga by Lois McMaster Bujold.
