For the last two weeks, I've been using #BunnyCDN for a few things. I quite like it.
Does anyone use #BunnyCDN? How does the caching work if there aren't any Expires or Cache-Control headers set and Smart-Cache is disabled?
For some reason, it's adding "cache-control: public, max-age=2592000" automatically. I don't want that. I want it to only honor what the origin sends.

One caveat, excuse us.
When it comes to #BunnyCDN (and CAGEMAFIA) for serving actually **content blobs** like images and video etc, we do enter problematic #centralisation territory, yes. As a result we think images must to be served like #Peertube, ie. #P2P, importantly using #I2P network and only sharing content you've interacted with + don't disallow explicitly + if your phone battery is above 33%.
#bunnycdn #centralisation #peertube #p2p #i2p
#BunnyCDN is routinely unreacheable for me (Belgium - Telenet).
Does anybody have any clue who I could poke about this?
I’m really looking forward to presenting this webinar on Scaling Media Delivery Workflows with #bunnyCDN & #Backblaze tomorrow (Feb 28 2023, 10:00am PST)!
I’m quite pleased with the demo app - get a sneak preview of the code at https://github.com/backblaze-b2-samples/b2-transloadit-example and register at https://www.brighttalk.com/webcast/14807/573494
Tired of sites taking forever to load due to Google Fonts blocking pages? or the analytics Google collects from all sites using Google Fonts? Replace them automagically with privacy and performance focused Bunny.net fonts using my Browser Override config! https://github.com/digitalsparky/google-fonts-resource-override #fonts #google #bunnycdn #website #performance #privacy

A couple of hours ago I switched away from #bunnycdn towards my own “cdn” for #convocasa. While less fancy it is of course incredibly cheaper (less than a tenth of the costs of bunny).
I can scale-out and add more regions once actually required. I think it is good to be financially responsible, especially if this is run on #donations (well even though zero so far 😅)

Its not just the domain name of the instance itself that we need to be mindful of but also the #CDN that the server is using for images. Many instances use a seperate CDN.
The instance we are on uses what we understand to be a popular one by #BunnyCDN, namely https://cdn.masto.host.
As a secondary concern such CDN appears to block #Tor. We are again unable to post images again. (@witchescauldron)

#mastoadmin, if you are using any sort of web caching in-front of #mastodon, there is a bug that might cache the wrong format: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/22242
I included mitigation steps if you use #bunnycdn

@jerry @smorreel always depends. Self-managed has a better ROI if you are owning, so you are building up an archive. Cloud will just increasingly get expensive but has other advantages (availability). And also depends how much you worthy your time.
As for #bunnycdn , I have been using them for a year and also now for https://convo.casa relatively stable and good pricing options.
@ben Thanks for looking!
#BunnyCDN does https://bunny.net/network/ddos-protection/ (didn't test). #OVH has something too, perhaps (I only experienced the default one you get when renting a VM).
What endpoints are you trying to protect from DDoS?
@sigstart Yes, https://besocial.co.za and https://mastodon.africa . I found them by searching "#Africa" on #MastodonHelp:
https://mastodon.help/instances/en?lang=112&desc=africa
Any chance you might drop #CloudFlare in favour of a privacy-friendly CDN like #BunnyCDN? Then we can include your instances on https://fediverse.party/en/portal/servers/ too!

@admin Also, if downloading media/assets gets too slow for African users, maybe #BunnyCDN can help. It has 5 POPs in Nigeria or southern.

In the spirit of "paying for what you use" and "not putting all your eggs in the same basket", I took sometime yesterday to migrate some domains from #cloudflare to #dnssimple and #bunnycdn.

@ralf I'm currently storing all media on #BackBlaze and utilizing #free egress to #BunnyCDN. The #CDN itself costs pennies and I can live with that for the substantial gain in #performance.

@nicol The carbon impact side of things is impossibly hard to calculate. As for the performance, I believe all big instances end up outsourcing the matter to some CDN, like cdn.masto.host which points to #BunnyCDN. In theory such CDNs could also be doing deduplication, so that they store a file only once even if they receive it in a thousand copies.
@gruff
Hi Mike,
To us it seems that too many instances appear to be using that #BunnyCDN, server. No matter how well-meaning the server is, it creates its own centralisation issue.
One of our interests is in running a nicely themed (yes, including good proportions @sl007) fediverse instance over I2P and that it would serve a few hundred people well.
We're open to a well-themed Epicyon, GNUSocial, Pleroma over BloatFE or some fork(?) of M'don minus the newly-added (#)darkPatterns.
