The only "Competing Option" would be to painstakingly setup #an On-Premise #CanonicalLandscap, #VPN and setup #Ubuntu LTS on external SSDs.

Personally, I think that having a second drive and/or booting @bunsenlabs #BunsenLabs #Linux to update the tails ISO securely is a more convenient option that doesn't require costly centralized infrastructure and just works.

I'd rather donate for that than having to subscribe to #Canonical's @ubuntu #UbuntuPro + more work.

Finally uploaded a full video screen cap of Crypto-SOS bootable Linux. It's an imaged *.vtoy file that will boot off from a VENTOY usb drive. It has PERSISTENCE.

Wanting to try #fluxbox. I realize that I can get it on many distributions but does anyone have a suggestion for a #fluxbox focused #linuxdistro ? Something like #bunsenlabs and #openbox

For me, #Ubuntu #LTS is the way to go since it's bsically "Install and Forget" for the support lifespan as #updates just work and all the toolz my customers/employers/colleagues could ever ask for just work on it.

After playing around in the live sessions I went with @maboxlinux

Reinstalled #Bunsenlabs. Ran tasksel to install the MATE desktop. Same freezy behavior in MATE, but everything, including WIFI, works fine in #OpenBox. So there may be something wrong with MATE desktop, not necessarily #Debian12.

Installed #Debian12 Bookworm on my 32-bit HP Mini 2133, but it was missing the firmware for the wifi card. I thought Debian 12 included non-free firmware. Nevertheless I followed the instructions in the Debian documentation to manually install it. It worked, but now every time the WiFi is activated, the computer completely freezes.

I could try to figure out what’s wrong, but honestly, nothing was wrong with #BunsenLabs so I think I’m just going to go back to that.

@fatboy I know. But seriously, back in the day people would say try Fedora at your own risk. Now, even the upgrades are boring.

If you really want to take it slow my go to is #bunsenlabs - Debian based. Not in a hurry to keep up with the trends. I have it on my oldest laptops and it just works.

Sadly unless your T61 has a #Core2Duo upgraded it won't run #amd64 / #64bit distros, so you won't be able to use @tails / #Tails on it...

Otherwise do it like @fuchsiii and upgrade the #T61 beyond reasonable specs with something like a 2TB SSD and use it as #WindowsXP or #Windows7 #retro machine...

Bummed to wake up and hear that #archlabs linux is ending. Not a distro I used, but could appreciate for their #bunsenlabs take on a simple install and no bloat.

Not to mention that this is a No-Go for anyone who needs to rely on a system and actually do work with it.

#BigLinux like #RedHat, #SUSE and even @ubuntu got that big because they avoid that shit and offer commercial support.

This is why noone I know of uses #Debian on Desktop in it's basic form, but always some #Distro that adds quality-of-life features like #BunsenLabs, including #Drivers.

@msprout me too! It’s got 32-bit arch, but it’s running #BunsenLabs from an SD card like a pro. I kept the hard drive with the original SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED 10) by Novell untouched.
