"The news comes in the same week that Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham took the city-region’s first order of 50 electric buses, while, elsewhere, a bus operator in North Yorkshire placed orders for 20 new electric single-deckers and 19 double-deckers."

BUS
The other day on tv, a recent recruit to the world of being a bus driver was talking about how much she enjoyed her new work. The night shift in particular. But, she said, the only downside to working nights is that, after you are done with your shift and have brought the bus back to the depot, you get set to leave then realize you've missed the last bus home.
"At least 1,500 bus routes were cut in the last two years in England, figures published by the Department for Transport have revealed."

Kiss and fly charges aren't a solution to the problem!
> These are fees charged for dropping off someone as close to a terminal as possible.

You should absolutely have a hub and spoke infrastructure around international airports.
Public transportation that can deliver you to the airport terminal is the best thing ever when you need to fly a lot.

#SanFrancisco is rightly tired of being an experimental playground for #SelfDriving cars.
Waymo cars have
barged into construction zones, blocked people in their parking spots, driven past caution tape towards crime scenes and downed power lines, and are notorious for blocking #busses on SF's narrow streets

Melbourne's busses finally enters the 21st century in terms of passenger displays. If we want to try and convince people to use buses, we have to work hard to improve their ride experience, and passenger displays are one of those areas that needs serious work on (along with frequency and reliability). Unfortunately it's one of the areas that Melbourne is seriously quite far behind when compared to other similar cities. #ptv #melbourne #busses #publictransport

One more blast on our new episode :)
Released another episode of exploring Los Angeles' "walk-ability". In this episode we explore Silverlake and its isolated communities which are isolated from public transit all while getting stuck in a TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. This was a tough urban hike for sure!

The European Commission presented plans that would mean every new bus within the bloc's cities would have to be zero-emissions by 2030.
Under the new plans, the truck and lorry sector would also have to significantly reduce its emissions, but by 90% by 2040, rather than by a full 100%.
Frans Timmermans, Vice-President of the European Commission, explained that this is due to the ability of battery-powered vehicles in lower-temperature regions.
"The European Commission on Tuesday proposed tougher CO2 limits for heavy goods vehicles, requiring new trucks by 2040 to cut emissions by 90% and all new city buses to have zero emissions from 2030."

One thing that would really help me: real-time data on the free capacity of busses.
Being disabled, whether there'll be a seat or not makes the difference between a bus I can ride and one I'll have to pass up on. Being given an estimate, like "bus is 50% full, approximately 5% of seats remaining" would be immensely helpful and a preferable alternative to having to walk to the bus station and fuck around and find out.
The tech already exists. What's stopping us?
(If you didn't know, yes, busses count the number of passengers on them. There's little cameras by the door that use object recognition to count, it's used for evaluating the load on existing lines and verify if busses are empty.)
Of course it should be vague enough to not leak PII, so no precise counts, but rounding to 5% (which equals ~4–8 people, depending on bus capacity) would already be hugely helpful. Whether a bus is 40 or 60% full can make the difference between seats or no seats and would make public transport a lot more accessible to me.

#Busses need inertial dampeners. I love that I can use #PublicTransportation so easily but I would have thought that in the 30 some years since I’ve been on a city bus they would have improved the suspension.
