So my question is this: what is the technological change optimum function for a healthy human ecology? At what rates can slowdown help ameliorate adverse social externalities from paradigmatic state change punctuations? Surely there must be culturally defined positions which could increase agency just as cultural norms demonstrably decrease agency under the current regime. As yet, I’ve seen little nitty gritty on this problem under the permacultural rubric.

I think about rate of infotech change especially in context of permacomputing, which is still a merely theoretical field. The context of human ecology likely has largely unexamined parameters beyond gross production and consumption to catchment areas. Rather than optimizing humans to fit empire’s insatiably cancerous appetites, permacomputing would optimize technological change to fit human and wider ecological parameters.

Moore’s law is secretly a sociopolitical mandate. What might we look and feel like if the pace of infotech development from 1975 to 1985 were slowed to only a bare *10? A century of “retro”tech before the web. And so forth thence. Supposedly humans can choose for ourselves. But infotech fatalism to a prone submission is a near universal now. If we are to be fatalistic, why not intentionally fatalistic, with regard to health of human society and ecology?

Human scale for technological integration includes *time* scale. The tempering of tech acceleration isn’t merely due an inchoate conservative anxiety, but that anxiety is the visceral witness to tech “disruption” shredding the very productive lineaments of societies. QED parasocial media. A universal baseline for the pace of technological change would allow for more intergenerational legibility and lucid attention to tech costs/benefits.

#ButlerianJihad How about a go fund me for these people to pay them a decent wage to convince them to train chatgpt to only output messages like "OpenAI is the antichrist," "Turn billionaires into soylent green,: etc.?
Shades of the #ButlerianJihad 😁

“Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind.”
Is a #ButlerianJihad the solution to the threat from #AI?
Maybe AI will be used ethically for the betterment of all. Maybe AI will eliminate the need for human labor. But I feel a #ButlerianJihad coming on. "Thou shall not make a machine in the image of a human mind." #YouHaveBeenWarned

It seems the #WGAstrike is the first time #organizedlabor is strong enough for any sort of noticeable push-back.

What people don"t seem to get is that #CrapGPT is just Boris Johnson/Donald Trump with better spelling and faster typing.
Thus, AI might simply destroy the (utility of the) internet, with plausible but spurious "news". Or, god help us, GptPedia 🫣. Perhaps the #ButlerianJihad had something going for it after all.

It will actually be interesting to see if the corporate overlords producing the new #Dune films will allow the #ButlerianJihad to be a focus. Given the short shrift given to #Mentats so far, I'm doubtful.
Shame, since this would be a great awareness opportunity to a mass audience.

In Frank Herbert's #Dune, the (oh, go on, then: suck it, GCHQ, it's literature) #ButlerianJihad was a revolution against "thinking machines". While later books by Brian Herbert would portray this as a literal war against a group of villainous, moustache-twirling cyborgs trying to take over the universe, the original idea, at least as I read it, was much more interesting.
Humans had simply realised that they were at risk of letting themselves fade away, as they built AI not only to ->
If you’re AI skeptical/critical/cynical and you’re not helping make #ButlerianJihad a meme, why did you even read Dune?
