Butter Pie, apparently also known as Catholic pie or Friday pie, is an age-old dish, from around the #Chorley and #Preston area of #Lancashire in the UK or, for the non-Lancastrians, a potato pie.

Its filling is mostly sliced potatoes, onions and some butter, salt and white pepper and has a shortcrust lidded case.

They can be vegetarian if lard is not used in the pastry.

They are mentioned in the Paul McCartney song "Uncle Albert"

Butter pies were served on match days at Deepdale, the stadium of Preston North End F.C. until 2007 when the providers, Ashworth Foods Ltd ceased trading.

Some people have the lids of their pies lifted and the pie stuffed with grated cheese packed. Others (me) favour the 'Butter Pie Barm'
