I set up a minimal test "blumat" system a week ago, and it's working really well! 😎

There's an old garbage can (plastic bucket/pail) 🪣 with about 15 liters volume hanging between the #hanging #pots on the terrace, a little bit higher. That's my #elevated #tank. 🤡

A 8 mm tube/hose runs from the tank to the top of a hanging pot with three pepper #plants. It's attached to the top of the ceramic cone that's sunk into the pot between the plants and "feels" how dry the substrate is. 🚰🚱

My hanging pots have an integrated water reservoir in the bottom. I normally put water in there and not on the upper surface between the plants.

So in my #test setup, I decided to run the small drip line (3 mm) that releases water down the outside of the pot and into the bottom reservoir. I was skeptical about that bit. 🤔

It's working perfectly fine! 🕺💃☀️🌊 During the first two days, the part visible part of the reservoir dried out, but the substrate in the pot is still moist more than a week later, and the plants are #happy. So the "drip on demand" is working! 🌱

Next step: Test it with a #garden hose and pump instead of the hanging "tank". ⛲ 🚿

Now that most of my plants are growing happily, my next step is to prepare an #automated #watering system.

We want to #travel in #August, so I still have about two months to figure it out and #test it thoroughly.

Last year our neighbor offered to water our #garden. What can I say, some #plants were still alive when we got back two weeks later!

I'd love to do something with an elevated #tank. But I don't have a tank, and also no good place to put it. 😆 On the other hand, #solar power will still be abundant in August, so I guess I can spare a few Watts for a #pump.

I have an old "blumat" system lying around in the attic, that's one of those with #clay cones that release water when it's dry, so I will check that out first.

Today is World Environment Day. It's just after lunch time here and I have already received many special offers for this special day to *buy* *more things*. 😠

The things are made of (or "with") recycled paper or recycled plastic or organic cotton or sustainably sourced wood, you know, very nice.

The things will help me live a more meaningful eco-friendly life, connect with nature and with the people I love. When the things were made, apparently a lot of water, energy and other resources were saved compared to when other things are made. When I have the things, I will save so much, I will even save the plant.

I need to buy more things!
