@schock exactly! A lot of the large scale harms that we see in platforms like Twitter and fb are related to the emphasis and deliberate design choices to grow as quickly and seamlessly as possible. We don't have that here, but that won't stop all the abuse. We definitely need cross-instance TOE (a thing we came up with at #buytwitter - Terms of Engagement over TOS). We also need a focus on those who are harmed, their needs, and on transforming community cultures that enable harm.

@dawnatella @scottjshapiro a bunch of legwork on that front (including a shareholder resolution) was done as part of the #buytwitter campaign in 2016-17, one of the outgrowths of which was the social.coop instance...

That's how I first came here. It is unique placed to create safer spaces for conversation whilst being international / intersectoral when needed.

My own instance, #SocialCoop was an experiment to develop a cooperatively-run social network, and brings together those from the #platformcoop movement and the original #buytwitter movement.

We didn't have the Muskian version of #buytwitter in mind though!

@sam @GuerillaOntologist I've definitely given that idea some thought, particularly targeting firms for mutualization that seem like they would work well as consumer co-ops (like Costco).

I think an index fund approach would be too diluted, you'd need to target specific firms where you could actually force a #BuyTwitter type moment.

This might be a fun topic for one of the social.coop coffee hours...
