Good news for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area today! The court tossed out Twin Metals', a Chilean-owned sulfide mining company, lawsuit against the Department of the Interior. The lawsuit would have allowed the company to operate a toxic mine on the edge of the BWCA.

Background: it didn't meet their lease requirements, so Obama's DOI cancelled it. Under Trump, it bought a mansion and rented it to Trump's daughter, & it immediately got its leases back. Biden's DOI cancelled it.

First fire of the year in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. It is between Spice Lake and Ogishkemuncie Lake.

The fire is currently 30 acres in size burning in mixed boreal forest with Spruce Budworm affected vegetation.

Fire personnel are developing a fire suppression plan, ensuring firefighter and public safety.
