Byland Abbey sits all aglow.
A once fine place a long time ago.
For all her walls may well be destroyed, she sits here now feeling slightly annoyed.
Of all the abbeys a king once killed, this abbey’s heart is still alive.
Where monks once worshipped a god, I now stand on grassy sod.
A rose window that inspired a minster now sits in dark looking sinister.
The light that once shone through is now so dark, no colours to dapple upon you no glorious window to see through. #bylandabbey

It was pleasing to see the Nelson Stone restored to its correct postion. Or should I say the 19th-century boundary stone.
One of the last times I was here, in 2017, it had vanished. I learnt later it had unceremoniously been dumped in a nearby pond. That act of vandalism must have taken some doing.
