BZFlag.org is a first-person shooter unlike 99% of other games. You can't buy anything to play. It's open source. You play on servers run by people who like to play. Every server has its own rules about how the game is played (e.g. Capture The Flag or Free For All). It's a federated game. You can drop in on a server game for a few minutes and play a while or play for hours. You can switch servers if you like. If someone is being a jerk, players can vote the person out. Communication with other players is text only. You can register your "callsign" or use a disposable one. I've been playing for over 25 years. It is time for our next open-source-only gaming event! It will take place Saturday September 23rd, starting at 12:00UTC.

We have two newcomers this time, #HyperSomnia and #FTEQW with #LibreQuake.

We will also have a #SuperTuxKart tournament with a prize!

Finally, we will also play #bzflag and #lix, so that will be a lot of fun.

@RedCyberLizzie, Try BZFlag. It's free to play and you can't buy anything to level up. You drive a tank around a map on a server and can pick up flags that give you abilities or disabilities. The server owner makes some of the rules and there are three kinds of games. Free for all, where you shoot any tank not the same color as your tank, Capture the Flag, where you try to get the flag from another color team to your base, and rabbit chase, where everyone tries to kill the rabbit tank and whoever does becomes the rabbit.
You can play for a minute or all day. Or drop in and out. You can register a callsign on bzflag.org. I play most often as Preserved Killick and my favorite server is Quickshot. Let's shoot at each other soon! #BZFlag

I've been playing BZFlag. It's a first person tank battle game, with low quality graphics.
1. It's free to play and FOSS
2. You play against real people
3. There is no way to buy power-ups
4. It is federated, so every server you play on has a different map and rules.
5. You can drop in and drop out of play whenever you like

I play as Preserved Killick or more rarely, as Elrond Hubbard. My favorite server is Quickshot, but I also like LouMan's Mystic Valley. Please come and shoot at me. This is casual gaming at its finest. I've been playing for over 20 years and I have plateaued. Make me improve.
