The next refugee from the overfull cellar is this incredible 2002 #Bordeaux blend from Rosemount Wines, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. It has aged magnificently, silky smooth with plenty of fruit left but all those delicious tertiary characteristics layered underneath. The fruit comes from both the McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek wine regions of South Australia. Absolutely thrilled with this bottle!

Ha.. so I thought these were a failure. I snagged am armload of #CabernetSauvignon trimmings in 2021, and stuck a bunch in pots. I discovered today that seven survived. Whilst this wine isn't from the Hunter Valley, the winemakers certainly are. Peterson's have been in the Hunter for over 50 years now and have become renowned for their reds.

This Cabernet Sauvignon is described in their own tasting notes as "ribena for adults" and I certainly can't fault that, it is very fruit forward. But it also has some lovely soft tannins and after a chance to breath it was delicious. 14.5% ABV so goes down pretty easily as well. The bottle disappeared a lot quicker than we expected 🤣

Tonight’s Aussie cellar dweller: the 2012 Chertsey from @penleyestate is oaky, with mocha and cedar over herbal, leafy notes and hints of cherry tomato, cassis, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied and velvety, it seems to have plenty of life ahead of it. Liked it, didn’t love it. The blend is 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 14% Cabernet Franc.
