Larry Harvey, one of the original founders of the event, then accepted on faith that the Nevada desert site would work, and the organization began.
#Cacophony events like this were called #ZoneTrips, a reference to stepping into “The Zone,” some extra-dimensional space of constantly shifting boundaries: unknown, tricky and dangerous.

The children put down their drumsticks and raced to where their father was mixing stevia into his smoothie.
“Too much noise!” He moaned. “One chocolate chip each, if you’ll find something quieter to do.”
But the children new better. They’d discovered the truth the day before, across the street at the Langston household.
Their father had been giving them carob.
“No deal, Dad,” Moonlight said. “Your cocoa is PHONY!”

An unfamiliar presence was moving closer. The birds quieted as they too sensed something. Keeping low, the wolf crept toward an open field where the grass was high and provided good cover. She waited.
It appeared in the form of a massive elk, but it was wounded and bleeding. Suddenly enlarging to massive proportions, she sprang upon it and seized it by the throat.
