1. Remembering another miner who lost his life in the Cadeby Colliery explosion in 1912.
Robert Peel Ivema Bungard son of Henry Walter Bungard and Lorenza Emma Clark. Robert was born in 1891, Shoreham, Sussex.
In 1901 he and his family lived at 7, Kelham Street, Balby.
In 1911 Robert’s occupation was a Pony Driver Coalminer and the family lived at 10, Willow street, Conisbrough.
In 1912 he married Sarah E Crookes, Doncaster.

After 1911 Samuel and Clara lived at 60 Cliff View Road, Denaby. Samuel died on 9th July 1912 Cadeby Main Colliery killed in rescue party age 51. Clara died on 25th July 1914 age 53. They are buried at Denaby Cemetery.

1. Remembering another miner who lost his life in the Cadeby Colliery explosion in 1912.
Samuel Thomas Sanders son of William and Caroline Sanders was born in 1863, Porthlevan, Cornwall. He married Clara Holroyde on 25th December 1894, Morley, Yorkshire, they had two daughters. In 1901 the family were living on Ellershaw Lane, Conisbrough. In 1911 Samuel was a Miner Dataller Under Ground and the family lived at 3, Melton View, Denaby.

Edmund Jesse & Charles Edgar Tuffrey sons of George Charles Tuffrey and Mary Ann Gardener. Edmund was born in 1890, Weston on the Green, Oxford. Edgar was born in 1891, Weston on the Green Oxford. On the 1911 census Edmund was a Coalminer Haulage Hand and Charles was a Coalminer Pit Corporal.

Part 5. On the morning of the disaster he was on his way to Barnsley Main Colliery to investigate the cause of an accident, but hearing of the explosion at Cadeby he went straight to the spot and nobly sacrificed his life in the hope of saving his fellows.
The interment took place at Eastwood Old Cemetery, Glasgow.

Part 4. Prior to his appointment as Inspector, he spent several years in the Lancashire Coalfield.
Mr Tickle was known as being deliberate and undemonstrative; but all who knew him testified with enthusiasm to his generosity of heart and mind. He was conspicuously devoted to the duties of his profession.

Part 3. He was one of the honorary secretaries of the Doncaster Engineering Society.
He was born in Liverpool in 1877 and was educated at the Merchant Taylors School and at George Watson College, Edinburgh. He was articled to Messrs J and GH Geddes, Mining Engineers, of Edinburgh and received his practical training at the collieries belonging to his grandfather's firm, Messrs Nimmo and Son Limited of Glasgow.

Part 2. He was 34 years of age and was appointed Inspector in August 1909, being first stationed in Sheffield, then in Leeds, and for the last 12 months of his life, in Doncaster as the mine manager, Mr Pickering's personal assistant. During his stay in Yorkshire Gilbert gained the very highest esteem of all with whom he came into contact, both on account of his personal characteristic and professional ability.

Matthew Jordan was born about 1860, Sligo, Ireland. In 1911 he was living at 61, Loversall, Street, Denaby. He died on 12th July 1912 at Cadeby Main Colliery. He was buried on 13th July 1912 at Denaby Main Cemetery. memorial

Charles William Philip Radley born 1889, Tuxford, Nottinghamshire. In 1912 he married Jeannette Maud Ashton at St. James Parish Church Doncaster. They had one son who was born in 1913 and they lived at 74 Balby Street, Denaby. Charles was a Filler and died on 9th July 1912, Cadeby Main Colliery age 22.

Frederick William Horsfall Surveyor.
He was a Sunday school teacher and was connected to St. John Ambulance Brigade, holding prizes which he won in 1906. Was also a member of the cricket club, the C.E.M.S, the Institute Mining Class.

Frederick died on 9th July 1912 during the explosion at Cadeby Colliery, he was part of the rescue team. He was buried on 12th July 1912, Denaby Cemetery.

His father James Springfield Snr. was deputy at Cadeby main Colliery he had also been the explosion at Cadeby Main colliery, and he was taken home in a bad state suffering from internal injuries. He suffered form bruises and gas poisoning in the stomach. He died on 29th March 1913. He was the last victim.
The photo is of James Jnr on his 18th birthday and the other are seven deputies and second from right is James Springfield Snr. photo of 7 deputies James 2nd from right.

James Springfield Jnr. Was born in 1893, Swinton. He was the son of James Snr. And Eliza Springfield. On the 1911 census James Jnr lived with his parents and siblings Altha, Cecilia, and Edna. James also had another brother Amos. They all lived at 143, Tickhill Street, Denaby Main. James Jnr. died on 9th July 1912, age 19.

Thomas Samuel Williams Assistant Deputy. Thomas was born in 1879, East Dean, Gloucestershire. On the 1911 census Thomas was a widower and lived with his sons Samuel John (12), Harold William (10), and daughter Evelyn Beatrice (9), Annie Elizabeth (6). Residence: 55 Maltby Street, Denaby Main.
He died on 9th July 1912, Cadeby Colliery age 36. He was buried on 12th July 1912, Denaby Main.

On the 1911 census John’s occupation was a Ripper below ground and he lived with his wife Florence (nee Dunning) who was from Denaby aged 20 and his 11month daughter Edna. They lived at 66, Ravensfield Street, Denaby. They had only been married for two years.
John died on 9th July 1912 Cadeby Main Colliery age 26. He was buried on 12th July 1912, Denaby Main Cemetery.

Frank Walton Assistant Colliery Deputy, was born in 1871, Dodworth, Yorkshire. He married Catherine Murray in 1909, Doncaster. On the 1911 Census Frank was a colliery Deputy and they lived at 89, Clifton Street, Conisbrough. Frank died on 9th July 1912 when he went down with the rescue party and lost his life age 39. Frank was buried on 13th July 1912, Dodworth Cemetery.

Frederick Richardson Colliery Deputy at Cadeby Main Colliery. He was born in 1863, Mirfield, Yorkshire. On the 1911 census Fred was a coalminer. He had one son Fred Richardson and one daughter Doris Richardson and the family lived at 31 Tickhill Square, Denaby Main. Fred died on 9th July 1912, Cadeby Main Colliery age 50. He was buried at Conisborough Cemetery.

William Jarratt Phillips (known as Jarratt) Colliery Deputy. William was born in 1868, Staffordshire. He married Emily Lunn in 1890, Doncaster. They had six children in all. Jarratt Phillips died on 12th July 1912, Cadeby Main Colliery in a gas explosion aged 44. He was buried on 13th July 1912, Conisbrough Cemetery.

George Whitton Colliery Deputy. George Whitton was born in 1881, Mexborough.
George died on 9th July 1912, Cadeby Main Colliery age 32. He was buried at Denaby Cemetery.
George was a member of the Ambulance Brigade and also a member of the Ambulance Band for over six years.
