Dark forces lurking behind dishonest TEPCO

Updated 22:00, 12-Jun-2023

"Tokyo Electric Power Company () announced that facilities used to release the nuclear- wastewater from the Power Plant into the sea will be put into trial operation on Monday, according to local media outlets. The move is widely seen as a pilot for 's formal dumping plan.

"After TEPCO sent seawater into an underwater tunnel designed to dump the nuclear-contaminated water into the last week, the marine caught in the harbor of the plant were found to have 180 times the maximum limit of the element allowed in Japan's food safety law.

"Despite this worrying result, the International Atomic Energy Agency () asserted in a report released on May 31 that TEPCO had demonstrated 'capabilities for accurate and precise measurements of the radionuclides present in the treated water stored on site.' The report concluded that no additional radionuclides at significant levels were detected. The contradicting findings make the public even more concerned about Japan's dumping plan."

"In an interview with Chinese media, , an who has stayed in Japan for almost 30 years, straightforwardly expressed his disagreement with the IAEA's report. TEPCO has only tested 20 percent of the tanks, Burnie said. In addition, third-party laboratories in the U.S., Switzerland and South Korea have taken the samples of only 25-liter water (before dilution) each, while there's more than 1.3 million metric tons of nuclear-contaminated water stored in the plant. The amount of samples was unbelievably limited."

Today, we may not be so amazed. We have so many optical gadgets which split light and send it in diverse directions 'at th

The lost capsule “contained -137, a fission product used in high-tech equipment. The element is also a byproduct of nuclear weapons and reactors. These chemicals can persist in water, soil, sediments, plants and animals, and even travel up food chains. But the situation of the lost capsule is unique. That makes it hard to predict the environmental damage it might cause.”

Radioactive substances expert perplexed at how dangerous capsule 'has fallen off the back of a truck' in WA. The capsule was lost in transit along a 1,400km route in WA. "At the moment, I don't think anybody can quite believe that something that's highly has fallen off the back of a truck. It's a regulatory failure.”

This incident in WA isn't a first for Australia, BTW.

In 2014 there was an incident in Chinchilla QLD involving a CS-137 source about 3x larger than the WA one. It was being used for borehole logging - so I'm assuming it was related to our friends in the fracking industry.

The source fell out of its shielding and was left on a platform where it was later discovered by workers, two of whom handled it. Four people were exposed and one got nasty radiation burns to the leg.

More detail:

It's also mentioned in the ARPANSA incident register:

Unlike many other lost source incidents (Goiânia Brazil, Tammiku Estonia, Samut Prakarn Thailand, Li Georgia) which are documented in fascinating detail on the IAEA site, there is very little information available on this particular accident.

But they do mention the source had a 1800 R/year dose rate. Interestingly, this works out to 2 mSv/hr which is exactly the same as was quoted for the WA source.

We don't have a natural understanding of and how it can spread.

Regarding the lost capsule in australia.

Maybe reading about the accident from Brazil 1989 helps. A scale 5 of 7 incident.

Ok, I guess I will have to do this myself. I have found a free & open-source software for compressing images:
