Seattle made it easier to operate a food truck as part of the #CafeStreets regulations. Hopefully we see a flourishing of them in Seattle as a result. Nothing better to activate an parking lot of vacant lot edge.

#Portland is the food cart capital of the U.S. I can never get enough of them! :) This is the "Lil' America" pod. Other cities do food TRUCKS--yuck! :) Trucks move continually, by definition.

Congratulations to (*checks notes*) Houston, Texas on your new 7 block long pedestrianized street! If car-centric Houston can do it, so can any American city. #CafeStreets #StreetsForPeople

Cities that are shutting down your #cafestreets in the winter, what are you thinking? This is Seattle in March.
Patrick is a big supporter of #CafeStreets and can be seen in SNG's video on this: http://seattlegreenways.org/cafestreets/

Going to clarify that Patrickโs comment called out some of the historic board members pushing materiality as an excuse to tear down the pergolas for not being brick and iron. Indeed, a big fucking problem. Patrick has been very proactive in developing a smarter solution.

Some in the Ballard historic district review board have called the pergolas an "eyesore."
Which setup is more of an eyesore?
Which setup enhances the sense of place, history, and character?
The idea that private parked SUVs everywhere is somehow better than tables, chairs, and planters is fundamentally flawed. #CafeStreets
Refreshing to see Seattle get something right that other cities have been messing up. #CafeStreets are here to stay:

California will essentially force San Diego to remove outdoor dining structures near the beach and restore parking. Commissioners were concerned about the "privatization of public space" - the public space previously used to store private vehicles.

Sidewalk vending like what Bao An Tang is doing in the CID on King St enhances the street life and pedestrian experience. The proposed #CafeStreets permanent regulations will make it cheaper and easier for other small businesses to do this too. Canโt wait to see it passed in Dec

Food trucks and #CafeStreets enliven our streets and make walking interesting. Despite concerns, food trucks compliment the restaurant industry (https://ij.org/report/food-truck-truth/executive-summary/).
Portland has a thriving food truck scene. This is a modest step towards that for Seattle. Contact Council!
