During the day as solar peeks, batteries are being charged. Then as the evening begins and power usage goes up, solar goes down to 0 MW but battery supply to the grid goes up to ~4,000 MW. It'll only get better as more solar and battery storage are added. Over time, this means further cutting down on natural gas and fossil fuel imports.

Looks like they called it based on reserves levels, and it also triggered a customer program. I know they recently updated their emergency notice fact sheet (http://www.caiso.com/Documents/Emergency-Notifications-Fact-Sheet.pdf) and it now has 2 EEA-3 stages.

I wonder if they did this b/c of low reserves. Also looks like there was a dip in the battery supply around when it was declared?

#CAISO has no supply issues at the top of today's system peak. California was exporting energy during the middle of the day.

#CAISO net demand curve got pretty low today. Lots of exports of solar too.

California's grid operator, CAISO, has been given approval by federal energy regulators to use new methods to measure transmission capacity, including dynamic transmission line ratings that consider prevailing weather and temperature conditions. This will allow for more precise operation of the high-voltage transmission system and improve operational efficiency.

@Reuters it’s going to be interesting how #CAISO deals with overgeneration during the next two months as heating loads go away, cooling loads haven’t started, and massive snow pack increases likelihood of hydrospill. We’re already seeing some spill as dams seek to get headroom for flood control / runoff. But extra good news is that we should have much more large hydro availability into fall, helping with #ResourceAdequacy during the tighter part of the year.
