Large collection of the 'Nawab Rulers' #IndianMiniaturePaintings received by Archibald Swinton (1731-1804) as 'Diplomatic Gifts' has been given to National Museum of #Scotland in 2021 in 'Lieu of Acceptance' tax of £2,267,370 on the Swinton estate.
Swinton travelled to #Madras #Chennai #India in 1752 & became an Army Surgeon with #EastIndiaCompany
Subsequently, due to his familiarity with local customs, he was appointed as the Chief Surgeon at #Calcutta #Bengal
