While camping in Pinnacles National Park this last weekend my daughter killed a gnat in our tent, only to find a faint smear of bioluminescence on the bug's body. Barely visible in the complete dark, but definitely there.

California doesn't really have fireflies, I'd only experienced them in the midwest or east coast. I didn't know had any California insects that glowed all.

Unfortunately I can't figure out what bug it was! Most of the ones I found online were far to big. This was tiny, and not visible until it was dead, unfortunately.

So if anyone has any ideas let me know! The campsite was near a creek, if that helps.
