Air Attack Base Ramona (RNM): The Ramona Air Attack Base is located in the CAL FIRE San Diego Unit and was established in 1957 by the then California Division of Forestry, making it the oldest Air Attack Base in the Department’s system.
Ramona responds to an average of 450 calls per year. On average, the base pumps 850,000 gallons of retardant a year. Ramona has a possible peak output of 250,000 gallons of retardant each day. #firewx #Californiawildfires #avgeek

Cal Fire’s McClellan Airport Retardant Reload Base (MCC): This is CalFire’s largest air attack Base. Fully loaded C-130’s and Very Large Air Tankers(VLAT’s) deploy from MCC to battle drought induced wildfires in all of Northern California, Nevada and parts of Oregon. Last September, the California legislature approved the Prescribed Fire Claims Fund, to offer coverage for practitioners across the state. Since its passing, a task force made up of stakeholders has been working with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) to hammer out the details. The final version of the Prescribed Fire Liability Pilot Program could be announced by Gov.
