I'm surprised that this is still an issue.
Women have been continuing to use their "maiden" names after marriage for a long time.
At least as long as when I was 1st (and the only time that I was) married back in 1973. Yike, I just relalized that that was 50 years ago!!!
Anyway, my ex & I had a discussion about this and it was her choice to take my last name, which was still the convention at that time, because our names were phonetically similar and she felt that it would cause unncessary confusion not to make the change.
I know that some women "reclaim" their maiden names after divorce but my ex still uses my surname even though we've been divorced for 25 years.
To each her own. 🤷♂️
