And @Goldfish (so far) is a copy of TikTok, Or YouTube Shorts...
Do agree that the #Fediverse needs to think bigger and better and OTHER than current mainstream apps.
I also think they can be LESS than some of those: LESS intrusive, LESS addictive, LESS noisy, LESS about hyper-sharing, etc. LESS rewarding of incendiary content...
More #CalmTechnology, more about healthy communities, more about privacy, more about information....
While the calmest of technology is no technology at all, and while I struggle to see any use cases here that are truly compelling, if you absolutely must have #smarthome technology in your house, I love this #calmtechnology approach.

Curious how many users of this instance have tried (and/or succeeded) in downgrading to a "dumb phone" such as the Light Phone 2, Jitterbug Flip, or Nokia's 3310 reboot.
I had mixed results with the 3310 a few years ago, and the Light Phone 2 is intriguing, but I haven't seen good reviews.

I'm making a small, local-first groceries app:
I've made so many improvements to the underlying storage and sync systems in the last month, but not too many changes to the app itself.
Still, I don't know if it's just that work I put in behind the scenes or what, but it is feeling really good lately, and I'm proud of it!
My goal is to build the tools that make small but featureful web apps like this easy. So I can make more!
@charlesroper Nice! Am a big fan of Pinafore. It does implement many ideas of #CalmTechnology 👍
The #QuietForce meeting #CalmTechnology: a match in heaven!
Thanks everyone here who make it happen. Have a #GoodFriday.

Rule #0 of #CalmTechnology is obviously "No Screens".
And here's my recommended Rule #1: any abstractions of the information should not add more mental load to the user than just displaying the information plainly.
Rule #2 is progressive disclosure - any abstracted form should show its full details when prompted by user.
e.g. If the designer decides to replace displaying temperatures with just a color, it shouldn't be harder to tell how hot or cold it is than just showing it as a number.

#CalmTechnology is like tchotchkes one can buy at CB2, with aesthetic by Teenage Engineering.
It would be fun to prototype some with

Is that just me a #NewHere but ...
I feel like a kid in a candy/toy store, looking at all of those wonderful candies/toys on display.
I mean so many thoughtful, calming and caring toots (?) to enjoy.
#CalmTechnology? You bet.
Thanks @chancerydaily for leading me here.
#CalmTechnology sounds like a good idea:
“Calm Technology allows people to accomplish the same goals with the least amount of mental cost.” — Amber Case, 2016

Social platforms are BY DESIGN are the opposite of "calm technology."
I think the Fediverse has the chance to change that.
"Humans are not made to spend their entire life wrapped up in devices and systems, they are meant to be human. Calm Tech is technology that doesn’t scream for a users attention, it’s created with care and a lot of thought. #CalmTechnology allows people to achieve their goals with a low mental cost."

As I add another 100 users to this instance several times a day, I see the "why do you want to join" question we require.
It strikes me at how many note this Instance's focus on #calmtechnology as a key part, along with #OpenWeb, #IndieWeb, and #fediverse
In setting this instance up every option, I could set to use #CalmTech principals in place I did. Suspect there might be more. Will think on that.
Wonder who else has thought about that and #Mastodon

@_astronoMay Good idea and a definite implemention of #calmtechnology principles...
One more good article on #calmtechnology -
"..calm technology interacts with us through designs that 'encalm and inform'. It operates alongside our peripheral awareness, engaging our full attention only when needed, or when we choose to interact with the technology directly.
Calm tech aims to help us feel serene and in control as devices and information technology become a more integral part of our daily lives."

Calm Technology
https://calmtech.com/
The right amount of technology is the minimum needed to get the task done.
Technology should not steal our attention, while we are not using it.
The machines should not act as humans and speak with us.
A world with just these three simple rules would be so calmer and more pleasent to work in it.
