https://locness.duckdns.org/links/shaare/vTepAg imo, must-read for those interested in aftermarket mobile operating systems
Besides DivestOS, the first sections include:
- an explanation of security support and updates on Android
- comparison and info about security updates in #GrapheneOS, #CalyxOS, #LineageOS, #DivestOS
- exposition of security-related and other issues in /e/os (#murena), #iodéOS, #Replicant, GSIs, and #UBPorts (#UbuntuTouch)

I've been using 1.1.1.1 and 1.1.1.3 for the longest time, but NextDNS looks pretty cool.
If you get a Pixel phone, #CalyxOS is very beginner-friendly. Well, the install process isn't as beginner-friendly as #GrapheneOS' web installer, but it's still pretty easy. Download the win/lin/mac executable and run it with your phone connected, follow the prompts.
Just make sure you have ~4GB space in /tmp for staging.
(I usually have to comment /tmp tmpfs from fstab when installing calyx)
I use TrackerControl on my kindle to try to keep things under control.
It's an ugly battle.
In contrast, using a de-googled android OS like #CalyxOS is so stinking pleasant.
A) xaos (old fave linux prog., look it up)
9) #SwayWm (or #i3wm if wayland's not your thing yet)
8) #footTerminal
7) NeoVim (any *vi* is good, though)
6) #KDE #Plasma
5) FOSS OSes in general
4) #RollingRelease Linux distros
3) #DeGoogled #Android (#CalyxOS is my preferred flavor, but many of them are excellent)

Honestly, it's working so well now that the only thing I miss is in-app purchases. I could get those back with a different alternate Android OS (#GrapheneOS), but #CalyxOS fits my use case better, and I don't *need* in-app purchases right now.
Otherwise, I've got things humming along pretty well.

@unixviking
1) You can choose to not install #microG at all on #CalyxOS.
2) If you chose to install microG you can activate oder deactivate its components to your liking.
@truls46
Why don't you get a used unlocked Pixel 5a on swappa or ebay and throw #CalyxOS on it? Ungoogled Android makes five year old phones feel pretty spry, and the Pixels always had good cameras. You just need to install the Google Camera app to get the best quality pictures.
I know what it's like to be rushed into a snap decision -- that's exactly what happened to me a couple weeks ago.
...
Honestly, when I got my $80 Pixel 3a and loaded #CalyxOS on it, I just thought, "Why did I just buy a Pixel 7? This little phone is *GREAT*!"
Of course, it's going out of support this year, so there *is* that. ;)
I should do some blogging on it!
I tried /e/OS recently. It's nice, and has some features that #CalyxOS doesn't, but not so many that I wanted to switch my daily driver.
If you are mad at GrapheneOS due to the last show. #CalyxOS is a great privacy OS for android. Been using it for a few years. Aurora, Fdroid, microG (if your into that), all work great. https://calyxos.org/
@adam
I'll have to remember to check out Trunks.
I just wiped my phone and installed #CalyxOS on it, so I'm trying to avoid having a fediverse client on my phone for a while. ;)
@gebrauchskunst

#sailfishos #calyxos #grapheneos
#CalyxOS.
I'm looking to migrate from #GrapheneOS.
I really like GOS's security features, but MicroG is just a better fit for me, and Calyx has some other minor creature comforts I'm missing.
I know diehard #Graphene fans will be disappointed, but guys... I love you. *Please* chill the heck out.

Do you mean that the Google Play Services library is actually loaded and on-device?
I haven't noticed that when I was running #CalyxOS.
