And I would suggest using either as you would in a normal sentence. e.g. #PascalCase at the start of a paragraph or a name, or #camelCase for a regular word in your sentence.

Note that even though the suggested hashtags come up as all lower-case, if you type it in using capitals then the capitals will stay there, and the hashtag will still work, though if you accept the suggestion before you finish typing the hashtag it may override it to be all lower-case, so always type it out in full.

i.e. your post won't show up in a search of a hashtag that wasn't in the original post. So if you realise there are some relevant hashtags you should add to a post, then you will actually need to make that post again from scratch in order for it to show up in searches!

In regards to #readability #accessibility you should always use #PascalCase (every word starts with a capital) or #camelCase (first word lower-case, then capitals for subsequent words). Don't use #snake_case (underscores)...

@meredith so I agree with you. What's challenging is that some apps default to lowercase.

V annoying. Predictive text on my phone keyboard is actually more helpful for writing hashtags in #CamelCase

I don't get how not everyone is onboard with this. #CamelCase makes it so much easier to read for everyone, I'd've thought?
Including for middle aged middle class cis-het white men who work in IT, like myself.

@meredith I totally agree. Almost every time I #CamelCase, Mastodon tries to revert it to lower case only. Maybe this should be an option...

As I’m heavily influenced by Microsoft semantics (.NET/C#), I differentiate between #PascalCase and #camelCase.

I *did* start to type in Camel Case but the pop-up list of hashtags autocorrected to all lower case.
Now I know #Mastodon can work with #CamelCase I'll overwrite :)

Few years there were big discussions if it is better to use #camelcase or #lowercase on as #hashtag in #mastodon .

I think the conclusion/recommendation was to use lowercase only.

Is there anything new on this? I see plenty of camel case hashtags.

Did Mastodon in the meantime became case agnostic or does it still matter?

Meanwhile, I'm impressed that Mastodon suggested #NumismaticsSocial (even if it forgot the #CamelCase) when I was originally writing #Numismatics. As far as I can tell the longer one has been used only twice before. Can I dare to hope that Mastodon is getting better at finding things?
