Did you knowโ€ฆ there are over 250 known species of the genus ?

The sheer quantity and visual variety of throughout our world, is just astounding.

If one thing in life is true, you cannot get enough of a good thing, right?

Camellias are one of the most bountiful and generous flowering trees on the planet. And Iโ€™m grateful for that.

They make bearable when the floral landscape is normally in its most dormant state, as nature prepares a pallet of colour and fragrance for spring and beyond!

, with the common name sasanqua , it is a species native to China and Japan.

It is usually found growing in high altitudes, but does very well in conditions indeed.

As a kid I recall the couple of camellias that grew prominently in our family garden and flowered prolifically this time of year, as tended to, so lovingly by my mum.

The bright yellow anther and filaments on these ones are particularly beautiful.

So too, the striking pinks of their flowering petals.

Nature at its best.

Meet a beautiful-blooming !!

Itโ€™s most common name is sasanqua and this species of Camellia is native to China and Japan.

Most species of camellias require a large amount of water, so with the steady rainfall of late (and relative mild summer) itโ€™s no wonder these are blooming in abundance.

OMG!

Itโ€™s season!

is a species of Camellia native to China and Japan.

This one is gorgeous and healthy. The leaves are characteristically shiny (some are waxy) and the deep pinks of the petals and yellows of the filament-anthers are something else.
