The Buchanan Street Camel.
Situated on the side of the former Commercial Bank of Scotland building on the corner of Gordon Street and Buchanan Street in Glasgow, it has always struck me as a bit of a weird choice of animal to feature on a Glasgow building, but may symblose the prudent laying up of resources.

Did anyone say #HumpDay ? Three of the camels that live locally and are loved and cared for by my friends. They recently embarked on a 6 week fundraiser trek through dry country in NSW (trucked it up there and back) The caravan pulled a wagon with supplies, chickens, a goat and a dog plus two adults. The funds they raised went towards purchasing Backpack Beds for Homeless Australia.

On the Maspalomas Dunes we rode camels and took part in a caravan for the first time.
The caravan trips out on the dunes were popular and we met another caravan as we were on our way back.

One of the paternity leave highlights of our trip to Gran Canaria was definitely riding a camel through the sand dunes of Maspalomas, while experiencing the Gran Canaria desert landscape from a comfortable 2-seater saddle on a 30-minute ride accompanied by Saharawi guides.

It is truly ridiculous that a pet #dog or #cat is not allowed on the majority of cruise liners (perhaps there is a single exception or two out there and not counting for service dogs), to accompany you on a cruise, yet #sheep, #horses, #goats, #cattle #buffalo and #camels are perfectly able to travel thousands of kilometres in conditions one step above a shit hole, only to be slaughtered/killed in ways seriously suspect of Australias laws against animal abuse.
There is talk of ending the trade, specifically the live sheep export trade, but this petition by the #AnimalJusticeParty will go a long way in making that reality come so much sooner.
And of course money comes into the picture. Ending all 'livestock' export will result in a loss of $1.6 billion dollars to the Australian economy, the money which predominantly goes in rural communities. In addition to the ban of this export, alternatives need to be incorporated so that the community doesn't suffer.
