To european cyanotypists...
Where are you buying your chemicals?
I can't find anywhere selling anything except Jacquard versions, which are small quantities and quite expensive. Are there alternatives?
Thank you!

This cyanotype was an exercise in practical set-up and in timing.
First, the dandelion heads were prepared to sit flat on the paper. Strangely, this ensures the heads look untouched (and unsquished).
Then, judging the exposure (no timing) to get detail of the finest seed stems. A few seconds too much and the detail is lost.
Serendipity meant that one seed tried to escape during exposure, so it's titled 'Time to Go'.

This was an exercise in creating a background on which to print an image.
I put the paper on the floor, and dripped chemicals on it until I was happy.
Once it was dry, I made an image of some Nigella (Love-in-a-mist) on it.
I do love the creative flexibility that using raw chemicals gives you in printing cyanotypes.

Floating towards you? Or drifting away?
Cyanotype of nasturtium leaves, trying to reflect the way their tendrils grow.
This image took a few days to expose.

A while ago I got involved with some academic philosophers, studying Philosophy of Memory.
I'd been working on the idea of whether a photograph could ever be defined as a memory.
Somehow, my artistic explorations ended up as a peer-reviewed paper
The title comes from a @GreatDismal documentary. I was inspired by Gibson's book of essays, 'Distrust That Particular Flavour'. Particularly 'Dead Man Sings'.

Another #cyanotype image from the Dream Tree series. This one was #nasturtium leaves.
A few days to expose this one.

Something a little different. I’m obsessed with #cyanotypes, a wet camera-less process invented in 1841 by Sir John Herschel, but popularised by Anna Atkins as a method of illustrating William Henry Harvey’s botany books. During the first lockdown (remember that?) I made masses of these, which stopped me from going out of my mind. I collected all manner of leaves and flowers, then made some digital-traditional hybrids.

Any other #cameraless photographers out there?
Here's a #cyanotype of a sweet pea seedling.
I made this as part of a series exploring #daydreaming. I was thinking about how, when relaxed, we can see something and thoughtlessly drift into seeing it as something else.
I saw this as one of a number of dream trees.

I have been making #cyanotype images (photographs made without a camera) for about 18 years.
I love the slow, hands-on process of it. I love the possibilities, and the liberty to create pictures that wouldn't be possible in-camera.
This image is my portrait of an acer tree which I had planted years before.
It's about 50 x 70 cm, and took about a week to expose.
