Cyanotype-coated watercolour paper made 30 'turtle' units for this model.

It was left outside for 24 hours. It's now going to be developed and... possibly collaged or reconstructed.

Exploring ideas about how we each have unique memories of a shared experience. Variables, in this case, include our point of view and our interactions with others.

I have no darkroom any more.

So I end up in the parking garage of our new place, coating several square metres of paper with cyanotype chemicals.

I've cut it into squares for a new project.

Tools - X-acto knife, Fiskars cutting mat, metal ruler, Fabriano watercolour and archival tissue paper. Tombow pencils.

And Border Collie.

Where are you buying your chemicals?

I can't find anywhere selling anything except Jacquard versions, which are small quantities and quite expensive. Are there alternatives?

This was an exercise in creating a background on which to print an image.

I put the paper on the floor, and dripped chemicals on it until I was happy.

Once it was dry, I made an image of some Nigella (Love-in-a-mist) on it.

I do love the creative flexibility that using raw chemicals gives you in printing cyanotypes.

I've started experimenting more with my anthotype images today. Branching out from turmeric, today I've made an emulsion of cyclamen flowers, and have begun to create 4 images from it. They're proving much more resistant to sunlight than turmeric, so will likely take another few sessions in the sun (whenever it next comes out). I'll share the results here when the images are ready.

This one took only one hour in the brighter mid-day sunlight. The last (first!) ones I did last week took much longer.

Something a little different. I’m obsessed with #cyanotypes, a wet camera-less process invented in 1841 by Sir John Herschel, but popularised by Anna Atkins as a method of illustrating William Henry Harvey’s botany books. During the first lockdown (remember that?) I made masses of these, which stopped me from going out of my mind. I collected all manner of leaves and flowers, then made some digital-traditional hybrids.

I have been making #cyanotype images (photographs made without a camera) for about 18 years.

I love the slow, hands-on process of it. I love the possibilities, and the liberty to create pictures that wouldn't be possible in-camera.

This image is my portrait of an acer tree which I had planted years before.

It's about 50 x 70 cm, and took about a week to expose.
