As I'm writing about my experiences with camouflaging, I'm already bracing for neurotypicals to chime in and say "all people camouflage," which has happened before, unfortunately and most irritatingly.
(not surprisingly, this person was an all-lives-matter ass mf, but I digress)
Yes, all people camouflage in order to be accepted into a group or community. Neurodivergent camouflaging, however, is exactly that, but also hiding our neurodivergence.
Our neuropsychological differences affect our senses, behavior, mannerisms, speech, outlook, and the way we experience and react to the universe and all of its phenomena.
With #neurodivergent #camouflaging, we're not just hiding our tastes, preferences and opinions like neurotypical people do in order to be accepted, but considering what I said above, we're also hiding the very nature and core of our entire existence so that neurotypicals won't bully, shame, or discriminate against us. This includes socially, academically, and most crucially, in our employment.
It's not just for acceptance, it's for our survival.
