The brown water tank is full.

There's been no place to pump out for 2 days, so it's strategic purchases: "Do you have a toulet? OK. I'll have a coffee."

Last night we moored by a Canal & River Trust toilet in Wigan. It's still functioning and it's clean! Yay .

Today the crew's taking the tourist train two stops to Chester, while I get a day of rest. Tomorrow we continue in our search for a pump-out.

Backing under Bridge 1 to reach the newly repaired water point at the top of the Rufford branch.

For a motor vehicle, this manouevre (backing into an intersection) would be against the rules. But for a boat, at 1½ miles per hour, what could go wrong? 😅

Thanks, Canal & Rivert Trust for having the waterpoint repaired. Rumour has it the pipe burst when it froze, last winter.

The Pinkston Basin in the North of Glasgow. At one time this formed the junction between the Forth and Clyde Canal (completed 1792) and the Monkland Canal (completed in 1794). The Monkland Canal has now mostly been filled in and replaced by the M8 motorway.

We've reached the Leeds & Liverpool Canal bridge that is biased against boats. Cars take priority during peak hours, and around here the afternoon peak starts at 2:00 pm!

At 6:00 pm we will resume boating until the wheels come off, hoping to reach Litherland before dark so we're set up to enter Liverpool with tomorrow's convoy.

I've booked us a pontoon (a floating dock) in Salthouse at Liverpool. Now all we need to do is get there by Friday.

2 days!

We will have to go full throttle, 3 miles per hour for … hours. Plus 4 more bridges to open, one of which prioritises vehicles – so no opening during peak hours.

It's almost like … work, …with … schedules and … deadlines. 😅

There really is a part of the world where the roads are called Daisy lane, Wood lane, Hall lane, Bleak lane, Moss lane, School lane, Briar's lane, Blythe lane, Hobcross lane, Lowrey lane, Course lane, and so on. The Leeds & Liverpool canal runs through it, near the villages of Hoscar and Lathom.

I have a handcuff key in my pocket, these days. Most of the locks and bridges in the northwest are locked with "handcuffs". They prevent vandals from opening both sides of a lock to let the water flow endlessly through and thus drain the canal.

Similarly, people get a thrill out of opening a bridge and then leaving it open, which blocks all land traffic (cars, bikes, pedestrians).

Waiting drivers watch you open the bridge, move the boat by, close the bridge, then force you aside with their cars before you can cross the bridge to your boat on foot.

Face to face, Brits are quick to call verbal interaction "Rude!" when it suits, but when they're separated from you by car glass, it's Me First!

This afternoon I went to pick up a package and failed, but this meant I was outside of the house, so...

I cycled a little, not too far away, and paused at this bench next to a bridge, where I used to sit often.

Not visible in the photos is broken glass around the bench and on the bicycle path, which is yet another reason I don't want to go too far from home.

Getting back would be very hard, especially since I forgot to drink anything before I left. Again.
Brainfog is risky.
