The other container of old seeds we got was labeled "green giant", which was a well-known variety back in the late '90s. We are trying to germinate them as well. Hopefully it's not too late.
In the hills of Northern California, stuck in baggies and hummus containers and jars, are thousands of varieties of cannabis seeds that no one is growing anymore. We are trying to save some of these, propagate them and re-distribute them to cannabis aficionados who have a soft spot for the old ways.
Technically, bringing seeds like this into the licensed cannabis cultivation system is illegal under the stupidly, pointlessly restrictive cannabis bureaucracy. We don't care. Preserving genetic diversity is more important than some cubicle-dwelling dweeb's little rule.

A little history of our #CannabisNursery name and image and how I think we're going to change it.
Creating an identity/brand/image/vibe for any business is tricky, but especially for a #cannabis business.
When I started this way back when, I was clear I wanted our visual presentation to stay far away from all the usual weed tropes (no offense to anyone!), e.g. Rasta, armed outlaw, "girl in a bikini with weed", urban street dude, DeadHead, hippie, "medical", or psychedelic. I also wanted to stay very far away from "the sophisticated cannabis business dude in a suit" (who never once had to hide in the woods during a cop raid) and all the pretentious high-end marketing and logo design that just *screams* n00b and wannabe and poseur.
I was looking for a graphically simple logo that would go along with high-end product and quality, but also no-bullshit and authentic. I came up with the name myself and worked with a designer friend on the logo.
It has served us well, but it's time for some changes. (cont.)
Our first sold-out variety of the season. Blueberry Muffin is a longtime favorite that smells and uncannily like its name. We've still got plenty of other varieties, though a few others are almost gone as well.

Magic Melon smells weirdly like honeydew melon when ripe. We'll be delivering these plants and three other varieties from the nursery to a location in Sacramento tomorrow, Sunday June 25th.
If you're within driving distance of Sac and can get your order in this afternoon, we can load them up for you. See our website ordering link for details. https://www.planthumboldt.com/delivery/
Cannabis has some really wild names. Some is just marketing, but many describe unique smells. There are varieties that smell like blueberry muffins, garlic, peanut butter, Lysol, diesel, turpentine, lemons and pineapple.
The chemical compounds responsible for most of these "flavors" are called terpenes. They play an important part in the psychoactive effects, working in combination with THC, CBD or other cannabinoids. The cool thing is that the genus Cannabis is prone to producing wildly varying terpenes, making breeding new flavors more interesting than just breeding for high-THC.

For the record, our main advertising venue, besides our mailing list has been *cough* *gag* *barf* Instagram. That's why I really hope we can gain enough traction on the fedi that we can either ditch IG or reduce our use of it dramatically. There's so much wrong with that company that I can't even with them anymore.
*big middle finger to Zuck emoji*
Any time I ( @Mikal ) post there I feel yucky. Luckily my crew likes IG, so they do most of our posting now. My sneaky goal is to get them to eventually start posting here as well so that once they see how cool the fedi is, they'll set up personal accounts here and quit supporting Big Social.
Anyhow, hi to our first followers 👋 here. We very much appreciate boosts to help being found.
#Introduction
We're a licensed cannabis nursery located in Humboldt County, serving all of Northern California. We provide plants to licensed cultivators and home growers.
We specialize in large, seed grown, sun grown plants and are probably the only place in the world where anyone (21+) can explore the nursery and pick out their own plants.
We pride ourselves on our commitment to environmental activism, social justice and preserving the traditional ways of the original Humboldt cannabis culture in the era of investor-funded, grow-bro corporate cannabis. The owner is @Mikal on here (this is me posting).
We dislike corporate social media as much as we dislike corporate weed, so we really hope to build a good home in the fediverse and will try to make a positive contribution.
Also, expect rants against the failure of CA cannabis bureaucracy.
